Young inventor Rodney Copperbottom decides to leave his small town and travel to Robot City to show his latest invention to Big Weld, the owner of a large inventing company. Along the way Rodney meets several other robots who try to help him reach his goal of defeating Ratchet and meeting Big Weld.
