I enjoyed this movie so much more the second time around. There are so many plots and characters to follow that I feel like I could see it a third time and still not completely follow everything. Audrey Tautou is amazing (as usual), and the movie has a very “Amelie-esque” feel to it, as it’s directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and had 11 of the same actors/actresses that also starred in Amelie. In A Very Long Engagement, Mathilde never gives up hope in her search for her fiancee, Manech, who disappeared during World War I. She follows lead after lead in her attempt to find out if Manech is still alive.
