Chumscrubber was an interesting movie about suburban life in present-day southern California, where everyone, from the kids to the parents, are on some kind of drug to help them get through their day. Dean, a lonely teenager, is shocked and disturbed when he finds his best (and only) friend, Troy, has committed suicide. The rest of the school population goes into panic because Troy was their drug supplier. Dean is coerced into finding Troy’s stash by a group of bullies who kidnap a boy they think is Dean’s brother. It turns out the the kidnapped boy is really is really the son of a self-absorbed interior decorator who is about to marry the mayor. Several stories intertwine as all of the kids and families live in close neighborhoods and are brought together through many bizarre events. I tend to like movies that bring seemingly unrelated people together, and I liked this movie for that reason. The movie starts out on a dark note, and while the plot and humor don’t lighten much, but I did laugh at times. I also had to look up what chumscrubber meant.
