A very moving, epic film about a pregnant woman, Aurea, and her mother who move to Maranhão, a very remote section of Brazil. Soon after the move, Aurea’s husband dies, and Aurea gives birth to a baby girl. Aurea and the girl spend the next twenty years in this remote, sand-filled land, isolated from nearly everyone. Eventually, Aurea, convinces a visitor to take her daughter back to civilization.
