The Pilot’s Wife

The Pilot’s Wife

Anita Shreve

This novel starts off with a woman learning that her pilot husband has been killed in a plane crash.  What follows is a page-turning mystery of why the plane went down and who this pilot really was.  The main theme that Shreve weaves throughout her novel is how well can one really know another person.  The widow, Kathryn, believes that she knew her husband, but after his death, she learns of clues pointing to a completely different person.  Shreve does an excellent job of keeping the reader in suspense as to who Kathryn’s husband was and why his plane crashed.
