Emotional movie based on the Marshall University airplane crash that killed nearly the entire football team, coaches, and staff. The crash happens at the beginning of the movie, and the remainder of the movie focuses on the rebuilding of the school and football team. Reminded me a bit of Remember the Titans.

Nancy Horan
An excellent account of the love affair of the late architect Frank Lloyd Wright and Mamah Borthwick. Both Frank and Mamah were married with children when they met: Frank was hired to design a house for Mamah and her [then] husband Edwin Cheney. It was during their work together designing the Cheney home that […]

I thought tonight was going to be the night of mediocre romantic comedies, but this one turned out to be half-decent. Two women exchange houses over the Christmas holidays to escape their lives and relationships.

Patricia Wood
The best reason for reading this book is Perry L. Crandall, the main character in Wood’s humorous novel. Perry has an IQ of 76, and is very happy to let the reader know that he “is not retarded.” At 32, he lives with his grandmother, who works hard to ensure that […]

Funny, very satirical movie about our country 500 years in the future. Due to a lack of reproduction by smart people, and over-population by not-so-intelligent people, our society is overrun by idiots. Definitely not as funny as Office Space, but still a good movie if you’re in the mood for some Mike Judge humor.

Unimpressive animated film about the Emperor Penguins who sing to find their mate. When Mumble is born, his parents and the other penguins realize he can’t carry a tune to save his life. He is blessed, however, with an incredible tap-dancing skill. The rest of the movie follows Mumble’s journey to discovering who he really […]

Two French revolutionaries pursue their political beliefs in the early 1970’s. Their perceptive 9-year old daughter understands more than they think. I think it would be more interesting if you’re more familiar with what was happening in Spain, France, and Chile at this time. Nina Kervel-Bey does an outstanding job for such a young actress. […]

This was playing on the free HBO on-demand movies, so I decided to watch it while doing some work. It turned out to be a so-so romantic comedy about an control-freak mother who becomes obsessed with finding her daughter a boyfriend. I wouldn’t recommend it.
