Patricia Wood
The best reason for reading this book is Perry L. Crandall, the main character in Wood’s humorous novel. Perry has an IQ of 76, and is very happy to let the reader know that he “is not retarded.” At 32, he lives with his grandmother, who works hard to ensure that Perry is treated with respect by others, and that he continues to learn, despite his disabilities. Perry is an honest, hard-working, and loving young man, and teaches those around him how to live a good, simple life.
