The Vaccine Book

The Vaccine Book

Dr. Robert Sears

If you’re a new or expecting parent, you’re bound to come across the controversial vaccination dilemma.  In the last month alone, both Parenting magazine and Time magazine featured articles on this topic, although both seemed to fall on the pro-vaccine side. I’ve read the stories claiming that vaccines can cause any type of problem, from autism to seizures.  A friend recently lent me this book, which provides information on all of the vaccines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.  Dr. Sears gives a good overview of how each vaccine is made, any controversial ingredients in each vaccine, and the reasons  for parents to give their child the vaccine, as well as why some parents choose to skip certain vaccines.  He concludes the book with an alternate vaccine schedule for those parents concerned about giving their child too many vaccines at one visit.  Overall, an informative book that provides lots of information for new parents confused about the vaccine debate. He has a decent website that provides up-to-date vaccine information, as well: http://www.thevaccinebook.com.
