Ever since watching The Queen, I’ve been interested in Princess Di and the Windsors. It’s strange to think that Diana has been dead ten years. And still, the world is captivated by her and her short life. As this is the only biography I’ve ever read on Diana, it’s hard to say whether it’s “well-balanced” and “fair”. But to me, it seemed very fair, as Brown does a good job of showing both the good and bad sides of the People’s Princess.

Daniel Silva

Of the three Daniel Silva books I’ve read, this was my least favorite. Something didn’t flow right and I never really got into the book. I didn’t like the leading female character and the ending was very anti-climactic.

This was a book that I was required to read for one of my classes for school. The class was essentially a business ethics course and we read the book in order to discuss the questionable ethical actions of the tobacco industry. The book is written by David Kessler who was the FDA commissioner from 1990-1997 and he describes how he and the FDA attempted to prove that tobacco products should be under the FDA’s jurisdiction. Our class discussions mostly focused around the ethical issues of manufacturing and marketing cigarettes which are known to cause cancer, manipulating the amount of nicotine in cigarettes so that the consumer becomes addicted, and the research performed by tobacco industry which was hidden under the protection of attorney-client privilege, was stopped when the results would cause harm to the industry, or required the scientists involved in the research to be prohibited to speak about the results.

Stephen Chbosky

Gillian Flynn

Gillian Flynn’s first novel was darkly funny, suspenseful, and an all-around good “page-turner”. Camille Preaker, working as a reporter for a Chicago newspaper, is sent to her hometown of Wind Gap to cover the murders of two young girls. Wind Gap, the model of small-town USA, holds many secrets and Preaker digs up some old demons of her own in her quest to solve the murders.

Agatha Christie

I was in the mood for a mystery, so I decided to pick up this book. It reminded me that I’m really bad at solving mysteries. Although, whenever I read an Agatha Christie book, the clues are so obscure that I’m convinced no one can solve her mysteries.

Ann Brashares

The perfect summer beach read, “The Last Summer” takes place on Fire Island and is the story of two sisters, Riley and Alice, and their best friend, Paul. The story begins when the three of them are in their early twenties, but flashes back fairly often to the many years they spent together growing up. Even though Riley and Paul have always been best friends, their friendship has never crossed over the line to romance. When Paul returns to the island after three years away, he starts to see Alice in a different light. What follows is an exciting relationship that Alice and Paul try to hide from Riley, so as not to disrupt their fragile dynamic as friends.

Ian McEwan

Like Ian McEwan’s other books, it seems that it takes only one small event to set off a series of events. In this case, it’s an argument that occurs on the wedding night of Edward and Florence, who are about to consummate their marriage. Florence has issues with physical contact, that may stem from growing up with a mother who was very distant and unreachable. Edward, on the other hand, has been waiting for this night for years. McEwan writes about their wedding night, and makes it almost painful [yet somewhat humorous] for the reader to witness this awkward situation.
